It's like sending someone to the scene to take notes. They watch for themselves, pick what matters, and send back only the key lines.
"Edge" doesn't mean unimportant. It means closest to where things happen.

Without it, what happens?
WITHOUT IT
Everything at the scene gets shipped, untouched, to a faraway place to be looked at
Like mailing someone a whole day of video and asking them to watch it end to end to find one moment. Slow, clogs the road, and when the road breaks, everything stops.
WITH IT
The scene gets filtered first, and only the few key frames are sent
The big computer far away only has to "think it through." It no longer has to "stare" for you.
In short: the legwork stays at the scene; the brainwork goes far away.

How it works
1. Hook up to the sceneConnected to cameras and sensors, its "eyes and ears"
2. Sort on the spotAlways watching, but keeping only the moments when something happens
3. Send it far awayHand the few chosen pictures and lines of text to the big computer to think over
4. Keep notes if offlineWhen the connection is down it stores things itself, then hands them in once it's back. Nothing is lost

You already have them around you
Robot vacuumSees a chair leg and steers around it, without waiting to be told
Smart doorbellFirst recognizes "that's a parcel," then pings your phone
Car emergency brakingSomeone ahead? It brakes right then. Waiting for a faraway reply would be too late
A small box in a shopWatches dozens of camera feeds and sends out only the screenshots where "something's up"
What they share: all must "judge on the spot." They can't wait, and there's no need to send everything out.

What it doesn't do
It is not a powerful computerSmall and low on power, it can't do truly brain-heavy work. The hard problems still go to the big one far away.
It sends out "less," not "more"The original footage stays at the scene. Only the small, chosen part leaves.
You don't have to buy one firstWith little to watch and a fast connection, sending straight to the far end works fine. When there are many places to watch and the connection is shaky, it becomes worth having.
What does this have to do with me?
You probably already own several: a robot vacuum, a doorbell, a car. They're quick because the brain sits right beside them, so they don't have to phone a faraway place about every little thing.
